Jim Parise is a professor at Duke University who specializes in helping students succeed in organic chemistry courses. Over the years he has trained and mentored new instructors, developed auxiliary courses to supplement student preparation, and developed and incorporated learning technologies and modern pedagogical approaches into large lecture courses.
With Prof. Marc Loudon (Purdue University), Jim is the co-author of Organic Chemistry, 7th edition, Macmillan Learning, a widely used First Year/Sophomore-level organic chemistry textbook. He has also authored and co-authored laboratory manuals, and a peer-reviewed book chapter on writing in the laboratory.
In addition to teaching organic chemistry, he has developed and taught various chemistry laboratories, and courses in the chemistry of cooking, fermentation, and distillation. 🍺
Jim regularly participates in community outreach and education events, helping people appreciate the wonder and excitement of chemistry, and demonstrating how it connects to our everyday lives.
